If you want to make a fantastic choice for the environment and have slightly sensitive skin, we'd highly recommend Sodasan Comfort Sensitive washing powder.

It contains nothing particularly harsh, its cruelty-free, it's plastic free, the ingredients are biodegradable and it performs exceptionally well.

The only mystery is why they are so coy about the formulation. It's fantastic once you actually find it!

Washing powder residue can be left on your clothes.  This is a big risk if you’re living in a hard
water area.  Meaning your sensitive skin needs sensitive skin friendly washing powder.

Sodasan Comfort Sensitive Washing Powder promises exactly this.

An environmentally friendly, superbly eco-conscious, sensitive skin friendly and fragrance-free detergent made from 100% natural sources (with 8% of those being organic). These are the face value promises you will find on the Sodasan
packaging and website.

Time to find out if this is the sensitive skin friendly washing powder for you.

First stop: Who make Sodasan Comfort Sensitive washing powder? Are they sensitive skin
experts?

Visit the Sodasan website and you’ll be instantly greeted with the Sodasan tagline

36 years – keeping it clean

Developing and manufacturing laundry, washing-up, cleansing, disinfectant and room fragrance products, Sodasan have a strong portfolio of over 60 products. Their mission (in case you hadn’t guessed already) is to develop and offer you environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional cleaning products – one’s where you’ll notice no in-performance change whatsoever.

Their environmental policy – which you can find online – also mentions where possible they source raw materials from 3rd world fair trade suppliers, that they are helping fund reforestation, use Greenpeace energy and are CO 2 neutral.

Impressive environmental credentials. Its clear Sodasan Comfort Sensitive washing powder is a go-to eco-conscious detergent choice, however, can it live up to its sensitive skin claims?

On arrival, you will find your 25 wash box of Sodasan Comfort Sensitive washing powder comes in a sturdy 1.2kg (just over 2.6 lbs) carton with a just-wants-to-make-you-smile baby face picture on the front of the pack.   The branding is blue, the word sensitive is prominent and the baby’s face tops it off.

This is Sodasan for sensitive skin.

On opening, there’s an inner plastic bag containing your 1.2kg of washing powder.

On top of the cream powder lies an extremely handy, flat pack, cardboard scoop.

Simply flip open and you have yourself one eco-conscious scoop.

First impressions can be ticked off. Sodasan is eco-conscious with promising sensitive skin claims.  Now how does Sodasan Comfort Sensitive washing powder perform? Can it live up to Sodasan’s aim of matching the performance of regular harsh shop brought detergents?

The Sodasan Comfort Sensitive washing powder is as stated on pack suitable for all fabric types apart from wool and silk and at all temperatures from 40 o C.

The inner carton lid provides an easy measuring grid telling you the amount washing powder you need based on your water hardness and the stain severity of your wash.

Measurements taken, the powder is easily measured by scoop and off the wash goes.

To test out Sodasan Comfort Sensitive washing powder stain performance we’ve given it a 3 stain  challenge.

Take a look below.

And here are the results – Impressive for an eco-conscious detergent. Especially on the 100% cotton fabric – stains on cotton are stubborn.

In fact, in all of our testing, the wash performance of Sodasan Comfort Sensitive washing powder stood out.

All types of clothes wash well.

Jeans – check. Bedding – check. T-shirts – check.

They also feel noticeably comfortable against the skin.

So what’s inside Sodasan Comfort Sensitive washing powder that makes it work? And are the ingredients as sensitive skin friendly as our Sodasan packaging promises?

On the list of ingredients displayed on the box you’ll find just 4.  But this doesn’t mean there’s only 4 in Sodasan’s
formula. By law, detergents do not need to disclose their ingredients, they only need to give you an idea of what they are. An outrage, and normally grounds for us to not review a product.

Sodasan have given more information than is needed by law on the box, but its still disappointing to see they haven’t fully disclosed their ingredients.

However, on the website, they’ve listed the ingredients in far more detail.

  • Sodium Soap * made from organic sources
  • Sodium Carbonate – a biodegradable cleaning agent
  • Sodium Silicate – helps regulate the amount of foam made
  • Sodium Polyaspartate – humectant and skin conditioning agent
  • Tetrasodium Iminodisuccinate – an agent that helps soften water
  • Sodium Citrate – another water softener

Immediately we can see that the ingredients are all relatively gentle.  It’s a soap based cleaner as opposed to a synthetic detergent (although I’d like to actually know ingredients they used to make the soap).  It’s a non-bio cleaner.  There’s no fragrance, no colorants, no VOCs, no hormone disruptors,  nothing known to cause cancer, it’s cruelty-free with biodegradable ingredients and they’ve gone for a powder as opposed to a liquid.   To top it all off, it’s plastic free!

Quite why they weren’t shouting from the rooftops about this I’ll never know.

Sodasan is a company who clearly understand the trouble with the laundry detergent industry, and they really should be at the forefront driving change.  Seeing them meekly hide their ingredients like this is disappointing at best.

In Summary

If you want to make a fantastic choice for the environment and have slightly sensitive skin, we’d highly recommend Sodasan Comfort Sensitive washing powder. It contains nothing particularly harsh, its cruelty-free, it’s plastic free, the ingredients are biodegradable and it performs exceptionally well.

The only mystery is why they are so coy about the formulation.

It’s fantastic once you actually find it!
